All you need is a love of the mountain and being on two skis or one board! Apex Alpine Race Team supports 5 High Schools and our mission is to create a fun, safe and memorable team to learn, laugh and get faster.

We offer up to 35 days on the hill training, skiing/riding and racing. Our team is made up of coaches who are positive and uplifting so that you gain skills for today and your lifetime.

In 2025/26 Ski Season, we will have two ski groups depending on experience. The nice part of getting fasater is that you also learn skills that make you a smarter steward of the slopes.

Meet Your Coaches
Kirsten Klug, Director & Head Coach
- Kirsten started Apex Alpine in 2024 after coaching for Meadows Race Team for almost 20 years (5 years she ran the HS Program). For their inagural race season, Apex had four individual athletes qualify for State races in Ashland.
- Kirsten loves to create the braver space where athletes can learn skills that improve the way they ski. They become more aware of how their whole body, brain and spirit work together to create turns that increase speed and fun. Kirsten found her love for ski racing when she was a freshman in HS. She went to state four years and won the league. Her senior year CHS won State! She also raced and coached in college.
- Many athletes, parents and other coaches appreciate her perseverance and positivity., even coming back after major accidents in 2018 and 2022 when she was hit while coaching. She is lucky to be alive!
- When not coaching ski racing, Kirsten is a mindset, yoga and leadership teacher. She has a book called The Healthy & Fun Choices Way.
Brandon Akers, Coach
- Brandon brings a love of skiing! He has been skiing most of his life and has in-laws who taught skiing for many, many years.
- He enjoys working with athletes to enhance their skiing in a variety of terrain and gates. If the powder has fallen and the mountain is open, we will find Brandon grabbing powder stashes and helping the athletes enjoy those awesome ski days, too.
- If the rain is falling and we are waiting for it to clear, we know Brandon will have a fire, coffee and hot chocolate ready for us in the parking lot, too!

IMPORTANT TO KNOW:
- Helmets must be FIS approved (POC, Giro, Smith)
- Poles need straps or click-on hand straps
- Slalom Ski comes to below nose
- Giant Slalom Ski comes to forehead
- Racers can just have Slalom Skis if want
- Make sure pants or bibs have side zippers if athlete has a downhill suit
- Boots should fit tight / snug, and comfortable
- Bindings should be tested each year by ski store
- Wax and sharpening of ski edges is key and we will offer ski tuning nights.
